Provides the technical & technological problem-solving ability of design engineering and planning abilities in order to input to the operational performance of complex Marine engineering Projects in close coordination with commercial (estimating), production (workshops) and operations (Project management & Planning) departments.
Expected to lead a team of Engineers to execute & technically Oversee Structural Engineering Activities for any marine Project.

Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities:

1.    Provides technical and critical business input and oversight to the design engineering process in the phases such as problem definition, conceptual design, preliminary design, detailed design, and design communication
2.    Aware of latest industry practice for ships structures and applies this to projects as value creating technical input.
3.    Aware of latest industry practice for marine Structures, Retrofit & conversions of ships & rigs
4.    Knowledge of design of various type of ship marine structures & Drilling structures as per client requirement, marine regulations, Class rules & vendor drawings.
5.    Reviews contract technical documents and develops work scope.
6.    Prepares technical clarifications and assigns work to Engineers and Assistant Engineers.
7.    Coordinates with client, classification society & vendors on technical requirements of project.
8.    Reviews structural designs & calculations developed by third party designers Section Engineers.
9.    Prepares FE analysis for various Marine & Offshore structures like, helideck, crane columns, LQ, substructures, equipment foundations, jack cases, tanks etc. Carry out Lifting plans, lift analysis for retrofit projects.
10.    Reviews vendor designs & quotations and advises production & purchasing department.
11.    Reviews technical clarifications & drawings prepared by Asst. Engineer/Designer.
12.    Reviews drawings, and owner/class comments.
13.    Resolves site issues and give solutions to production.
14.    Identifies and create potential change orders as per technical scope of work.
15.    Advises Head of Marine on technical issues to ensure class compliance & owner comments.
16.    Ensuring that Engineering deliverables are completed as per the Agreed project schedule & With acceptable Quality.
17.    Proper delegation of work to the Structural designer & ensuring the Engineering KPIs for Structural Engineering department is achieved.
18.    Guiding the Structural designers to develop drawings in accordance with the contract specifications
19.    Estimate the Manhours Structural Engineering during the Bidding stage of the project.
20.    Monitor the manhours spent by the electrical designers in development of Piping drawings upon award of project.
21.    Evaluate the Comments from Client and identify potential Change orders
22.    Ensure that drawings are issued in line with the safety requirements of the yard & the Classification rules.
23.    Ensures that design meets All the statutory code requirements specified in the contract.
24.    Displays safe behaviour on site and in the office
25.    Ensures Drawings & design are produced to meet the Contract technical specs & Class rules.
26.    Works along with the designer to produce drawings to meet the Department KPIs for quality.

Qualifications, Experience and Job Skills

Qualifications:
•    Degree /Diploma in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
Experience:
•    At least 7 years of relevant experience in detailed engineering of ship shaped structures, retrofits, conversions etc
•    Experience in Marine structural design, knowledge of structural calculations and FE Analysis

  • Technical & Engineering solutions (Marine & Offshore – Structural, Electrical & Instrumentation, Naval Architecture, Piping & Mechanical disciplines)
