Job Overview:

The Senior Welding Engineer provide Welding Engineering deliverables during the Proposal and EPCI stage of a project. Primary functions includes supervision of welding engineers, develop welding Engineering execution plan, selection of consumables and equipment, prepare WPS, run PQR, liaise with customers, coordinate with other internal functions, manage the schedule & budget for the welding engineering scope.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop the Project Welding Execution Plan that define the full scope of Weld Procedures as per the codes, standards and customer specifications. Standards includes internal and external standards.
  • Responsible for seeking the approval of all Project Weld Procedures through direct and indirect communications with the customer and Certifying Authority.
  • Work within the Welding Engineering Group and Welding Department to execute R&D development projects as per performance goals identified.
  • Coordinate with test houses regarding testing of welding qualification coupons.
  • Guide Welding Engineers on day to day matters and mentor trainee welding engineers to have better understanding of Codes, Standards and Project requirements.
  • Assist the company in resolving metallurgical, welding and quality related problems, through investigating cause of failures and prescribing fit for purpose.
  • Assist in the support and R & D of new efficient and cost-effective welding and related processes.
  • Support in the management of welding school facility for the training and development of welders and welding operators.
  • Review of vendor documents related to Welding.
  • Bid stage: review and summarize customer specifications, identify bid qualifications and clarifications, project welder and procedure qualification requirements, welding consumables requirements. Identify any special needs that may be needed for execution.
  • Technical welding support to offshore construction / pipe-lay.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Master’s Degree or at a minimum 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • 8+ years directly related to Welding Engineering, Metallurgy / Materials in Fabrication / Construction Industry

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Understand organization procedures and internal processes.
  • Understand, comply and take the lead for QHSES
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as act as team leader.
  • Have wide experience with technical activities, including onshore and offshore operations.
  • Communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken.
  • Computer literate on Microsoft programs:  Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project.
