Job Description

  • Develop and maintain a learning culture amongst nurses, particularly in the specialist field in which they work
  • Be a role model and always seek to improve the safety and quality of care delivered to patients in the specialist field.
  • Work with newborn infants across the continuum to support primary, acute, chronic, and critical care to neonates and infants suffering from various a problem such as premature infants and those with congenital disabilities.
  • Understand aspects of testing the cognitive development of newborn.
  • Perform neonatal screening.
  • Conduct examinations, record patient histories, monitor patient progress and consult with treating physicians.
  • Support mothers and families to select an effective care plan for the patients.
  • Monitor the health of infants directly after birth.
  • Educate new parents about breastfeeding and the care of their child.
  • Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions
  • Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions
  • Employ strategies to promote patients’ health and a safe environment.
  • Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory exams.
  • Perform essential life support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Qualifications

  • Have an appropriate license to work as a nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority (DoH) with all the qualifications and experience this mandates.
  • Have previous experience within the specialist field.
  • Have completed the relevant competencies within the specialist field (see section below)
  • Manage their own professional revalidation
  • Have basic life support qualification (within the past 24 months)
  • Have an active interest in the clinical field in which they are employed
  • Be willing to work across departments when necessary
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written)
  • Desirable but not mandatory to have a postgraduate qualification in the specialist field.
  • Desirable but not mandatory to be able to communicate effectively in Arabic
