College Profile:

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) was founded in 2016 following a 30-year success story as a department within various colleges at Qatar University. CHS is the national provider of high-quality health sciences education and research in Qatar and offers undergraduate (BSc) programs in biomedical sciences, human nutrition, physical therapy/physiotherapy, speech and language pathology and public health, as well as graduate programs in biomedical science (MSc), public health (MPH) and a doctoral (PhD) program. It is part of the wider QU Health Cluster that includes the Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine and Dental Medicine – http://www.qu.edu.qa/health.

Department Profile:

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (DRS) was founded in 2018. It offers a 4-year BSc. in Physiotherapy and a BSc. in Speech and Language pathology.

The BSc. Physiotherapy program is delivered in English. The curriculum is innovative and future oriented, thematic in nature with team-based learning, and moves away from the more traditional models of physiotherapist professional entry-level education by embracing critical pedagogy.

The Department has an international faculty and a global perspective.

The Department seeks to appoint two (2) Lecturer/Teaching Assistants to commence their positions in Spring 2025.

Duties & Responsibilities
The appointee will be expected to carry out the following activities:

1. Develop and conduct lectures, tutorials and practical teaching sessions and supervise students working in teams in one or more specialized areas of Physiotherapy (neurology, musculoskeletal and/or cardiorespiratory). Candidates who are versatile across content specific areas will be highly considered.

2. Supervise & co-ordinate in the practice education of students

3. Assist course co-ordinators in following up and grading of student assignments

4. Contribute to the stakeholder engagement within the professional community in support of teaching, research and professional development

5. Contribute to various committees at the program, College, and University level

6. Participate in the research activities of the Department

7. Assist in various other tasks related to the development and needs of the Department

Qualifications

1. Be a qualified physiotherapist eligible for registration to practice in her/his country and a member of his/her professional organization

2. A minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical practice

3. Hold a Master’s degree in physiotherapy 

4. Demonstrates evidence of teaching in the profession for example practice education and/or as part of continuing professional development activities

5. Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication, as well as interpersonal skills

6. Has very good organizational skills

7. Expertise in teaching with preferred previous clinical practice in the following physiotherapy core areas, namely neurology, cardiorespiratory and/or musculoskeletal. 

Note: to be appointed at lecturer level, the candidate must have published 3 papers in peer-reviewed publications.

Desirable skills and experience

1. Arabic speaker (preferable)

2. Experience in clinical/practice education development, organization and delivery

3. Evidence of leadership in the professional community

4. International teaching experience including working in culturally diverse environments

5. Licensed to practice in Qatar with Department of Healthcare Professions (or eligible to obtain license to practice in Qatar).
