Position Description:

Maaden Barrick Copper Company is seeking to recruit a Senior Safety Specialist to join and grow our team. This role is essential for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. The ideal candidate will be experienced in risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and safety training, and will foster a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety Program Development: Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of safety programs, policies, and procedures to promote a safe working environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards relevant to the industry, ensuring compliance and adapting policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct thorough risk assessments of workplace environments, processes, and equipment to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Safety Training: Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, covering topics such as hazard recognition, emergency response, and safety protocols.
  • Safety Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and work practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by engaging employees, fostering open communication, and recognizing and rewarding safe behaviors.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, including evacuation plans, emergency contact lists, and crisis communication protocols.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze safety data, including incident reports, near misses, and safety performance metrics, to identify trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, human resources, and environmental health and safety (EHS) departments, to integrate safety considerations into all aspects of the organization’s operations.
     

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety-related role, with progressive responsibility.
  • Professional certification in safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Occupational Health and Safety Technician) preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and risk assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and safety management software.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience leading safety initiatives and driving cultural change within an organization.
