1. JOB DETAILS:

 

Position Title: Senior Technician: Geotechnical

Broad Band: M08: Semi – professional

Talent Pipeline Layer: Manage Self Operational (MS)

2. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

The purpose of the job is to contribute to a team of FIeld Assistants to support the geology group with the processing of core samples, logistics of drilling activities, processing of production samples and other geological activities that are required. The role will involve working at an operating mine, either open pit or underground and/or remote support for exploration programs and activities. The incumbent will therefore assist in the collection, examination, identification and testing of earth resources, such as rocks and minerals to generate reports, derivative products and first-pass interpretation support for the Geology group.

 

3. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

 

Qualification:

1. High School Diploma

 

Experience:

1. 1 Year relevant experience working at an operating mine
2. Exposure to drilling and drill rig support
3. Exposure to Exploration and/or Mining Operations
4. Exposure to core processing

Skills:

1. Experience in core cutting processes, sampling collection
2. Experience and exposure of drill programs and logistical support of remote exploration programs
3. Basic understanding of computer software such as Microsoft Excel and Word
4. Good verbal and oral communication skills
5. Senior first aid certificate [essential]
6. Understanding of health and safety risks and safe operating procedures in operations [essential] in remote desert environment [desirable]

1. Processing of drill core samples, including mark-up, basic geotechnical logging, core photography, core cutting and core sampling as directed
2. Assist exploration and/or mine geologists with field tasks as directed, including drilling field support, geology field support, logistics support
3. Collection of field data and data entry
4. Assist with QAQC of information as required and directed
5. Provide field support for open pit and/or underground mining operations
6. Liaising with contractors including drilling contractors to support daily geological activities and daily work programs and upcoming requirements
7. Self & team consistently meets targets, due dates and quality standards (production, service, advice, etc.)
8. Ensure knowledge and compliance with health, safety and environment statutory and regulatory requirements
9. Ensure knowledge and compliance with applicable Ma’aden HSE codes, policies, procedures and practices
