Research Associate in Biotechnology

The Center for Sustainable Development is looking to fill a full-time Research Associate position in Biotechnology. The position is open to individuals who hold a PhD in Biotechnology, Applied Microbiology, or a related field. The primary focus of this role is to contribute to research activities with a strong emphasis on research topics related to the development of an overarching culture collection of microorganisms (CSD Biobank), including algae, cyanobacteria, and other microorganisms, capable of thriving under the desert climate of Qatar.  The candidate will contribute to the molecular characterization, identification, cultivation of novel isolates/extremophiles suitable for various industrial applications and quantification and characterization of biomolecules such as proteins, lipids, sugars, and other high value secondary metabolites. The ideal candidate will have a soundtrack record with respect to metabolomics research in Industrial Biotechnology applications. Preference will be given to those with good research experience. Good communication skills, both verbal and writing as effective communication skills in English are essential.

1. The candidate should plan and execute experiments designed to investigate biological processes, evaluate biomolecules and develop new protocols.

2. He/she is expected to collect, record, and analyze experimental data using appropriate software and statistical methods.

3. Knowledge of working on Liquid/Gas chromatography and similar instruments will be an asset.

4. The candidate is expected to enhance operations, management and valorization of the Qatar University Culture Collection of Microorganisms including algae, cyanobacteria, and other microorganisms. 

5. The candidate should supervise laboratory personnel, coordinating research efforts and providing training as needed.

6. He/she is expected to generate scientific progress reports and publications, contribute to research proposals, grant applications, and initiate high quality research in the area of expertise.

7. The candidate should assist with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment as well as with equipment maintenance and undertake additional research tasks essential to meet role requirements and research center goals.
