Job Summary and Purpose

Provide oversight and due diligence inspection of all machinery matters during the construction of LNG / LPGLPG vessels built at the selected shipbuilding site for the Nakilat newbuilding programs. Attend scheduled inspections, commissioning(s), tests, demonstrations, and trials to which has been assigned in accordance with the shipbuilder’s published schedule. Included in this list are any formal inspections, tests, which may be scheduled outside of the main shipbuilding facility, including but not limited to vendor’s shop tests.

Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct inspections of the shipbuilder’s production of the vessel(s) under construction at the shipbuilding site. Focusing on all machinery matters such as main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, engine room piping systems, machinery arrangements, HVAC systems, cargo machinery and other related items as assigned by the Site Lead.
  • Ensure that the shipbuilder’s efforts fully meet the expectations of the shareholders and are in accordance with the Shipbuilding Contract Agreement, specifications, approved plans, and the various memorandums of agreement.
  • Confirm that all installed equipment and systems are properly installed and are accessible for routine inspection and maintenance.
  • Attend all scheduled inspections, commissioning(s), tests, demonstrations and trials in accordance with the shipbuilder’s published schedule for these items as assigned in his scope of work.
  • Coordination of efforts with the other Inspectors may be required.
  • Ensure that all shareholder’s SHES policies are fully implemented and adhered to; and acts to bring all areas of concern to the immediate attention of the Safety Coordinator and the Site Lead.
  • Coordinate work to bring each vessel into service at scheduled delivery.

  • Adhere to all relevant SHEQ policies, procedures, instructions, and controls so that NAKILAT provides a safe, world class, secure and environmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people.

  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

 

Others:

  • Carry out any other related duties as directed by Machinery Lead to support the shipbuilding initiatives and projects.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Job Skills

 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Mechanical/ Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering or similar qualification.
  • Certification in machine inspection would be an added advantage.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the construction of large vessels, including at least two (2) years of direct shipbuilding experience working with machinery systems involved with the construction of LNG carriers, or equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the ship design and construction business.

 

Job Specific Skills:

  • Proficiency in and have an acceptable experience base in machinery matters that includes main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, engine room piping systems, machinery arrangements, HVAC systems.
  • Good written and spoken English language skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, to be used when dealing with individuals of various levels of authority and of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Good leadership and problem-solving skills when faced with complex ship construction issues.
  • Proficient in the use of word processor and spreadsheet software (especially Microsoft Word and Excel), including the ability to prepare periodical status reports.
