The Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) for Human Rights Capacity Development in Saudi Arabia commenced in 2014, based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Human Rights Commission. The Programme is supported by a team based in Riyadh under the auspices of the OHCHR Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa, based in Beirut, Lebanon. 

The main objective of the OHCHR-TCP is to develop national capacities for the promotion and protection of human rights, including working on promoting a human rights culture in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Moreover, OHCHR-TCP aims at providing technical assistance on human rights issues, to the Saudi Human Rights Commission (SHRC) and through the SHRC, to different public, private and civil society organisations in KSA. In addition, OHCHR-TCP aims at strengthening the engagement of KSA with the international human rights mechanisms, including providing support on the follow up process to the implementation of the recommendations of international human rights mechanisms .

III. Position Purpose

The driver reports to the Administrative Associate, at the duty station, under the overall supervision and oversight of the Programme Coordinator of the OHCHR-Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). 

The Driver should have excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide reliable and safe driving services using office vehicle to OHCHR TCP, UN officials and visitors.

              •            Provide services for office staff and official visitors.

•            Drive office vehicles for the transport of UN staff, officials, visitors, sorts delivery and pick up of mail from various offices at any premises on regular bases.

•            Meet official visitors at the airport, assist with basic visas and customs formality, in addition to any other arrangements when required. 

•            Assist in following up on vendors, contacting vendors for any information and documentation to be provided or received.

•            Support in local shopping / purchases including pickup of office supply and stationery.

•            Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle; keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.

•            Ensure vehicle is always kept in good running condition through addressing minor repairs, planning for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, water levels, and car washing.

•            Perform other duties as assigned.

2. Ensure cost-saving through proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned office vehicle. 

              •            Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs

•            Provide inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. 

•            Make timely minor repairs and/or arrange for major repairs

•            Ensure timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.

3.  Ensure availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies and necessary spare parts

              •            Keep current in vehicle documents such as vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country. 

•            Ensure vehicle first aid kit is adequately stocked with standard medical supplies.

4.  Take all immediate actions required by rules, regulations, and laws in case of involvement in accidents.

5.  Perform other duties within incumbent’s functional profile as assigned and deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and Organization

              •            Additional duties may include assisting with pouch, procurement, workshops, and other administrative tasks.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

High school or higher level of education is considered as asset along with valid driving license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.

 Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

•            Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience as a driver in an international/ local organization, private sector, and embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required. 

•            Knowledge of driving regulations, rules and laws as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance.

•            Experience in the basic use of computers and relevant office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and ability to use web-based management and electronic log, file and/or scheduling systems.

•            Knowledge of protocols and security requirements is an advantage. 

Language Requirements

•            Fluency in oral and written Arabic & English

•            Working knowledge of other UN languages desirable
