Job Objective

Be the focal point both within a specific Operational Area and as required across different operational Areas for issues relating to delivering and continuously improving the availability and reliability of equipment and production processes.

  • Implement measures to improve uptime
  • Facilitate Planned Maintenance Reviews/Optimisation (PMO)
  • Participate in and support, (may facilitate and/or lead), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) & measures drives the implementation of its recommendations,
  • Assembles, analyses, distributes and tracks information on reliability performance, bad actors and effectiveness of PMO & RCA
  • Guides the growth reliability awareness and application of improved practices
  • Actively collaborates in the drive to cost effectively deliver & sustain class leading operational reliability and availability.

    Job Description

    As a Reliability Engineer, you’ll work with a team of Planners & Reliability Engineers in the Technical Group, spending at least three days per week co-located in an Operating Area (Asset) and the remining time in a collaborative working space.

    The job holder will display a genuine interest in leveraging their technical knowledge & experience to improve the overall performance of Qatalum’s operations.  You’ll have excellent people skills, being able to work effectively with technicians, managers and technical specialists within Qatalum.  Your communication skills in written and spoken English will enable you to prepare and deliver effective reports and presentations to technical & non-technical managers and senior leadership.

    It is expected that you will become a respected technical resource within the Company.

  • Ensures high level and continuous improvement of Assets’ reliability and availability by carrying out regular performance studies on Qatalum’s assets and produces recommendations for improvement to prevent problems.
  • Carries out analysis by collecting data and analyses to determine reliability of components, equipment, systems and processes. Prepares reports to define reliability and availability problems, recommends improvements and supports the implementation of those improvements.
  • Develops and continuously improves the effectiveness of the Maintenance Program
  • Conducts required studies to support the development of Qatalum’s strategies, policies, budgets, short term and long-term improvement projects.
  • Provides technical guidance and supports troubleshooting/investigation of Asset challenges and provide assistance when required (for example for non-routine troubleshooting and more)
  • In collaboration with the required departments, for example Engineering, studies the proposal for Asset changes and modifications to ensure that all proposed changes will meet plant availability, reliability, maintainability, safety in operation.
  • Evaluates Assets’ chronic problems (bad actors) and provides technical, maintenance, operational change proposals to address them, carries out continuous improvements to improve these situations when required.

  • Effectively identifying uptime threats and raising appropriate notifications before failure.
  • Implementing known failure avoidance measures
  • Improved reliability performance reporting
  • Nurture effective links between Operational Areas, and Technical Teams

Challenges

  • Professionally drive and support maintenance and production teams as well as support groups to increase uptime/production targets in each Area plan
  • Build supportive and constructive relationship with maintenance and production teams and their coordinators in all areas
  • Collect, maintain, verify and communicate the integrity & uptime related data and metrics
  • Effectively implementing processes and practices and progressing them from implementation to sustainable, bottom-line effective culture.

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • BSc in Engineering or related technical discipline

 

Minimum Experience Required

  • 4 years’ experience in Reliability Engineering
  • 10+ years’ experience in engineering, production/maintenance operations in a large industrial facility

  • Collect, analyse, track and communicate reliability related performance data to identify and propose improvements to equipment and asset availability
  • Knowledge of and experience in facilitating PMO.  (Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) would be an advantage)
  • Operate the threat & opportunity management process, to assist Areas manage threats to availability and improvement opportunities so resources may be focused appropriately.
  • Knowledge and experience of fact-based problem solving and RCA facilitation
  • Basic understanding of Process Safety Management, SIL assessment and relevant international standards
  • Experience of working on a variety of operational reliability challenges, analysing data and find effective yet practical solutions. Specific experience on specialist industrial vehicles like heavy transport vehicles and vehicles unique to aluminium production would be an advantage.
  • Ability to do fundamental reliability calculations eg, Equipment MTBF, Systems Availability.  Knowledge of more complex calculations an advantage
  • Experience of managing change
