The Clinical Informatics Specialist (CIS) is primarily responsible for successfully leading clients through the phases of the Elsevier Health Informatics Triple I (Installation, Integration, Implementation) Methodology for the Elsevier Clinical Decision Support Solutions: Elsevier Order Sets, our evidence based order set content and content management tool; Care Planning, our evidence-based clinical content and Interprofessional Care Planning solution; and other Elsevier solutions requiring EHR integrations.
Health Informatics works with various electronic health record (EHR) platforms and applications (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, InterSystems, Philips Tasy, etc.). The CIS functions as a liaison between the Elsevier Clinical Solutions Content and Product teams, Clients and Client-specific EHR project implementation team members. The CIS is responsible for establishing a collaborative working relationship and facilitating communication between the Elsevier Clinical Solutions teams, the clients’ EHR implementation resources, and the EHR vendor teams.
The CIS provides both clinical and technical expertise grounded in evidence-based practices and clinical informatics theory to leverage the technical and functional capabilities of the EHR applications to achieve optimal clinical workflows and clinician adoption and use of the Elsevier solutions within the EHR.
The CIS will also provide the requisite education and training services to both the technical and clinical teams at the client organizations to ensure high degrees of clinician adoption, satisfaction and improved patient outcomes.
The CIS is part of the Elsevier Clinical Solutions Health Informatics Team and under the oversight of the VP of Health Informatics. This position reports to the VP of Health Informatics. Role expected around 80% travel time in the MEA region, mainly in the Middle East (Sunday-Thursday).
Key Result Areas and Main Activities and Responsibilities
Order Sets and Care Planning Products/Content Data Model Support
• EHR-integrated products/content data model support, enhancement, and maintenance during implementation within various EHR platforms
• Supports the product directors to provide client feedback and to identify content needs within the product databases in alignment with the product strategic roadmaps
• Applies style/format standards to content within the Content Management System (CMS)
• Performs QA of content within the product databases; demonstrates competency in use of MS Excel, with basic knowledge of MS Access and MS SQL database structure and navigation
• Supports delivery of content to clients during EHR implementations of products
• Serves as clinical informatics liaison for both client EHR implementation team and Order Sets and Care Planning services and products team members
• Supports/maintains project plans during product/content updates within client EHR platform/applications
EHR Application Workflow Support/Design/Build
• Acts as the Elsevier onsite lead and is responsible for ensuring the installation of the OS CMS client instance, the bidirectional integration between the client’s EHR and the Elsevier CMS and the implementation of Order Sets and Care Planning
• Supports EHR application design with Care Planning Intentionally Designed Automation (IDA) principles by adhering to the Care Planning EHR Integration Services Methodology
• Applies expertise to map workflows to EHR clinical documentation and order sets / care planning toolsets without direct access to system configuration tools (e.g., Epic, Oracle Millenium, Meditech Expanse, etc.)
• Maintains standards within Order Sets & Care Planning data model during active implementation
• Supports Elsevier Care Planning & Order Sets technical product team
• Supports manual configuration requirements and needs during implementation (i.e., hands-on build) within various EHR care plan, order sets and clinical documentation applications (i.e., Oracle Millenium, Meditech Expanse, etc.)
Practice Adoption/Implementation Lead
• Elsevier implementation lead for Care Planning and Order Sets responsbile for the client’s use and adoption of the Elsevier solutions
• Provides implementation Services both on site and remote
• Provides education planning support, education and training services to ensure use and adoption
• Responsible for defining, implementing, tracking and reporting on Key Performance and adoption metrics
• Where appropriate supports Care Planning and Order Sets Framework Models during implementation within EMR applications
• Contributes to the advancement/evolution of the Care Planning and Order Sets Installation/Integration/Implementation Services Methodology

• Demonstrates knowledge of redesigning interdisciplinary processes to improve efficiency, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centre care, preferably in conjunction with the implementation of a clinical information system/EMR application(s)
• Ability to multitask in a highly innovative environment
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences (and any other requirements)
• Licensed health care clinician (MD, Registered Nurse or Allied Health, Pharmacist)
• Health care project management professional (PMP) preferred
• HIT/EMR (Health Care Information Technology/Electronic Medical Record) implementation experience
• MD or minimum Bachelors level preparation (BSN, BS), prefer Masters level preparation in discipline or expertise (PharmD, MSN, MS)
• 5 years or more of clinical informatics experience preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of working experience in Saudi Arabia preferred
• Prior experience with direct HIT/EHR product consulting, configuration and/or product management (experience with clinical documentation, order sets and care planning configuration preferred)
• Experience with relational database(s) preferred
• Proficiency with MS Office
• Excellent English oral and written communication skills; Arabic an advantage
